The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) has released a new Methods Report entitled The Case for Present on Admission Indicator: Update 2011 Methods Report (Methods Report #2011-05).

This report provides an update to a 2006 HCUP report on the present-on-admission indicator (POA) that was developed to assist the National Uniform Billing Committee (NUBC) in its deliberations on whether to add POA to the hospital Uniform Bill (UB). This report provides an overview of the developments related to POA over the last five years, including the addition of the POA indicator to the UB and CMS requirements for reporting it. There is also a description of the other implementations of the POA indicator and an updated review of literature related to POA.
