HCUP Statistical Brief Overview of Outcomes for Inpatient Stays Involving Sepsis, 2016-2021 (PDF file, 1,118 KB;)(04/17/24)

  • Annual trends in the number of inpatient stays and In-hospital mortality rate for stays involving sepsis are presented across year and patient type. From 2016-2019, the number of all sepsis-related inpatient stays in the US increased by 20.1%. With the emergence of COVID-19, the number of all sepsis related inpatient stays increased by 26.5% from 2019 to 2021. See HCUP Statistical Brief #306 for additional findings.
